About Crystal

Hello! I’m Crystal. Registered Nurse, and Mama Coach in Grande Prairie & Area. Since starting my nursing career in 2014, I have worked on the maternity and Labor & Delivery units at our local hospital. Moms, babies, deliveries, and feeding have always been my jam.

I am originally from here, Grande Prairie! I was born in the same hospital that all my boys were, which I think is a pretty special thing. Some of my favorite things include charcuterie, outdoor adventures with my family, historical tv dramas & movies, furniture flipping, baking, sangria, playing music/ singing, cozy sweaters, summer temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees celsius, and eating yummy food.

I am mother to three sweet boys, who keep me on my toes, and life interesting and loud. And I am also wife to my amazing husband of 11 years, who is my biggest supporter and cheerleader. All three of my pregnancies and deliveries have looked different & brought their own challenges even with them all being vaginal deliveries. My breastfeeding journeys with my second and third children were challenging to say the least, as I struggled with oversupply issues and postpartum depression. My babies often got the “colic” label and I felt that it was challenging to receive support in my feeding journey because my babies were physically checking the boxes, but it was not an easy time.

During my own experience as a mom with a newborn, it felt hard to know where to go to get the support that I needed and at times it felt that there was a lack of resources for what I was needing to address the issues at hand.

In my career, as a maternity nurse, I have gained vast knowledge and experience in labor & delivery and postpartum care. I have always had a passion for equipping and supporting parents in their parenthood journey. My favorite part of my job, on the unit, has always been the teaching and connecting with parents and families. Everyone’s journey, experience, and goals are different and I feel so honored that I have the opportunity to walk alongside parents in our community, and encourage and support them to advocate for their personal and baby’s needs.

The internet is noisy with all the ‘best ways’ and ‘trending methods’ to parent and care for our children. I am here to be a source of reliable, evidence-based, non-judgmental education, information and support to equip you and empower you in your own unique journey. My hope is that this will be a place where you are seen, heard and encouraged wherever you are in your parenting experience.,

Frequently Asked Questions

Good question!  We are called The Mama Coach because years ago, when Carrie’s first boy was very small, she often wondered out loud to herself, “Where is my Mama Coach?” and “I need a Mama Coach!”.  Carrie searched and searched for qualified support and realized there was a need for qualified support for new families. We recognize that our name can give the impression that we only serve moms, but we will continue to work and learn to ensure our messaging is clear that all people are welcome here. Parents carry a heavy load, and do it with grace.  All parents deserve support, and The Mama Coach is the answer you’ve been searching for.

We do not just support moms — we help ALL people.  All are welcome here, and we are committed to providing you with quality support, no matter your gender or family dynamic.  As we learned in nursing school, your family is who YOU say they are.

We get asked this one all the time.  As Registered Nurses, having merely one method does not align with how we were trained in University to utilize the nursing process.

The Nursing Process is defined as, a “systematic approach to care using the fundamental principles of critical thinking, client-centered approaches to treatment, goal-oriented tasks, evidence-based practice (EDP) recommendations, and nursing intuition.  Holistic and scientific postulates are integrated to provide the basis for compassionate, quality-based care” (*1).

Simply put, we will assess your child using our nursing training to determine the best way to help your family reach their goals, walking beside you all the way.  You can choose us with confidence, knowing you have picked the most qualified resource to support your family’s journey.

Yes.  As Registered Nurses, we have years of training on where to access credible guidelines and information. All of our programming is based on extensive research from credible sources.

As Registered Nurses, it is our professional obligation to manage client records and confidential information properly.  We use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that is compliant throughout North America.  Even though we share the same brand, we are all independent Registered Nurses with our own private practices. As such, we each have our own EMR that is private and secure. We do not share EMR or client information between one another without consent.

Often they are — the answer largely depends on where you live and what your private insurance covers.  For example, in Canada, our services are covered under ‘Lactation’, ‘Registered Nurse Services’ or ‘Health Spending Accounts’.  In the United States our services can be covered as well, through HSA or FSAs.  Reach out to me for more information.
